I am having another boy in July, I guess us "Ol Country Boys', just keep it forever! My newest addition will be called, "Jacob Kenneth Martin Hart, aka "Thunder" because he will arrive when it storms everyday, and because of his lart name.

Everyone keeps wishing a girl on me, so if and when we have another one, it will be a girl!!!

Dear Class,

Thanks for all the concerns and prayers.  I had a brain bleed that fell into the 10% category that is not related to an aneurysm, and hopefully will not happen again.  I contribute the good news to prayer and my positive attitude in knowing friends like you were concerned.  Watching Springhill disappear from the window in the back of an ambulance was surreal and made me think of how important this little community has been to my life--and how blessed I am from it.

We have all experienced Springhill in our rearview mirror in some shape, form, or fashion--but hopefully, we can remember the good, forgive the bad, and hope for the best as our little town faces an uncertain future.  I was once again reminded that the word "relationship" is the most important word in the English language, and that I can disappear from my old friends and pick up right where I left off when we meet again.

Again, thanks for the prayers and concern.  Continue to be proud of where you're from, and pray that families can continue to have the positive experience we had growing up in Lumberjack country.

I love you guys,

Tim

Hey Tim,  Sorry I didn't make it up to see you while at the hospital.  Was in Dallas at a Youth Conference that weekend and found out I had acute bronchitis, so I figured you didn't need any of that.  I will try to get up there and see you soon.  Just letting you know that the Brookwood Baptist folks were praying for you.  Love ya brother, Rodney

Ok fellow Lumberjacks, I'm back up. Thanks Wally for the wake up email. I'm glad my fellow frogmen were able to GET SOME, but it ain't over yet. I recently got laid off from my previous contracting job and I am now down in Baton Rouge going through, what I have been told is a 7 week job interview. I will be here until May 30th. I work on weekends and don't get much time off, but if you are in the area let me know and maybe we can set up a get together. It is with a company called Triple Canopy. I can't talk about what they do, but you get the jist of it. I thought I was done with this stuff after I retired from the navy, but I guess I don't know when to quit. It's pretty bad when you're the oldest one in a class of 30 guys. When I tell a story, they all look at me and say, " I wasn't even born yet or I was in 1st grade". I guess I have a little still left in me. I'm actually having a pretty good time. Most of these kids are former Rangers or Marines. The next oldest guy is a 45 year old SF guy. I seem to be a motivating factor for them. Makes me fill pretty good for an old guy. It is good to be shooting, moving and communicating again. At least this time when I go back overseas I will be armed. HOO-YAH! Later guys.

Hi Everyone!  Just wanted to let you all know (if you're still checking in!) I've created a FaceBook group for our class.  This will be another way for us to keep in touch between reunions.  The group name is "Springhill High School Class of 1978".  Please feel free to join the group!

I have to respond to the last three entries:

Jeff, your SEALS kicked butt and finally got bin LADEN!!!  Great job!  I hope you are safe with your new adventure, and my condolences for the terrible loss of your colleagues the other day.  :(

Donna, after reading your FACEBOOK comment (I am one of the few people I know who doesn't have one), I looked at your classmate profile.  I thought the Sonic comment was funny.  There is one about 30 miles from us in Vancouver, Wa, and we go there once in a while.  Everytime we go to the south, food is one of the top things on our list of "to-do's".  For example, we wish there was a Crackerbarrel closer than Boise (500 miles!).  There are 3 within a couple of miles of my mother-in-law's place in Myrtle Beach.  :/  We only live about an hour away from the Pacific Ocean.  Regina and I went to a dance competition in Seaside, Oregon the other day.  We walked down to the beach.  It was about 67 degress and about five people were actually in the water.  It is another world from the Atlantic or Gulf.

Lloyd, I just heard about the demise of SHS.  I won't be delicate.  WTF!!!

Hope all of you are doing well...

Dixie

Hi Everyone,

I hope by now you've all seen your email I sent this afternoon.  A few were returned due to your address not being the same.  Please send your new email addresses when you change so that we may update.  We want everyone to have access to our mail.

Below is a copy of what I sent out this afternoon in case you are one of the ones who did not receive it.

SPRINGHILL HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 78

Dear Classmates,

It is with a sad heart that I am writing all of you today.  Danny Formby lost his 28 year old son yesterday.  They are in the process of coming to Springhill, and should possibly arrive tomorrow.  I was told the funeral service is set for 10:00 Wednesday morning, Aug. 10, at Lewis Funeral Home here in town.  As of right now, I don't have any information on visitation, but as soon as I hear of anything I will let you all know.  Please keep this family in your prayers during this devastating time.  Pray God will comfort them and give them guidance during the days ahead, as well as a safe trip here.

Thank you all for prayers.

Love,

Denise

I watched a great deal of track and field last month, during the world championships in Korea.  Although I have been a regular runner for most of my adult life, I haven't run competitively since high school.  When I watch track, even now, I think about my high school track days, and one of the people I think about is Lee Watkins (from football and track relays).  I thought about him again last week as I watched Darren Sproles run for a touchdown for the Saints.  When I ran, whether in track or football, it seemed like it took me 50 or 60 yards to reach full speed.  I have seen Lee Watkins go from zero to full speed in about 5 or 10 yards!  Some of my fondest memories of police work involve working with people who make me laugh; the same can be said of my days in high school.  I laughed and kidded around with a bunch of people during my high schools days, but three people from track relays really stand out in my mind: Charles "Hobo" Allen, Tony Green, (both of the class of '77), and Lee Watkins of the great class of 1978!  I don't have time to go into it too much in this forum, but I didn't know what I was doing half the time in high school football, although I learned a bunch of "detail" things from Lee during the latter part of our final season together.  I will always remember him as a class act, a true teammate, and a man with a ready smile and great sense of humor.  I looked at the memories section of this site and saw too many names of too many good people who were taken away from us far too soon.  (I guess God has more important work for them in Heaven).  I haven't seen Lee for a very long time, and a lot of water has run under the bridge in the mean time, but I haven't forgotten him or our other fallen friends.  He deserves much more of a eugolgy than I can provide, but I think I would be remiss if I didn't at least try.

R.I.P. my friend, Dixie

Hey Friends!  Not sure if anyone still looks at this site much any more - since we don't have a reunion in the works, but I wanted to let you all know we are trying to get an impromptu "dinner" get together in Shreveport on July 6th.  We'd love for everyone to join us if possible.

If you are in Springhill, Shreveport or a surrounding area, please let me know if you want to join us.  I'm trying to get a good head count so I can get a great location for us.

We also have a facebook group "Springhill High School Class of 1978" if you're facebook savvy and want to join, please let me know!

I hope you are all doing well!  I'd love to see you on the 6th!

Hey Everyone!

I tried to create a new broadcast email to everyone but had trouble so here's hoping this makes it to all of our classmates!

On July 6th a small group of classmates met in Shreveport for dinner and to have a "Pre-35th Reunion" discussion!  For those who were there, I REALLY enjoyed seeing you!  For those of you who couldn't make it, I wish you could have joined us but I realize not everyone lives in the area and the dinner was very impromptu so not everyone heard about it.  (I tried to reach out to everyone I have access to - but I'm afraid that isn't many classmates.)  We had a wonderful time and missed those of you who weren't there.  BUT, we  were able to tentatively set a reunion date for July 5th, 2013 so mark your calendars!

Can you believe we've been out of high school for almost  35 years?  I'm not sure about y'all but I think I must have graduated when I was 5 or so!  smiley

It's never too early to begin preparing for a great reunion.  I'm willing to help, but I'll be the first one to admit I don't know where to start!  I'm hoping someone from previous reunion committees will offer to help get this fun time rolling!

Where do we begin?  Who will help?

I look forward to seeing all of you in just 354 days!

Dear Classmates,

We’re asking for prayers for our good friend and classmate, Denise Cason Shaw. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery and will soon begin chemotherapy treatment. Denise and Jerry remain strong and positive (you know, they don’t let much get them down!), but would really appreciate your thoughts and prayers of support. As in our High School years, the Seniors of ’78 band together when we’re needed and every one of you is important. So, please keep Denise, Jerry and their family in your hearts and prayers. Thank you!

This is the only social media I do.  I finally kicked around joining Facebook a couple of years ago, but soured on the idea for a variety of what I think are obvious reasons in today's climate.  I saw these photos yesterday and laughed aloud.  I can't move that fast anymore unless I'm in a car.  I reread my two earlier posts, one of which I don't remember writing.  We moved from Longview to Vancouver three years ago.  There are Cracker Barrels, Shake Shacks, and In n Out Burgers near us now, but no Pancho's Mexican Buffets (my favorite!); the nearest one of them is in Arlington, Tx.  I have been kickinig around visiting Louisiana next month, but like my fast running, it is in a galaxy far, far away...   Who knows?   Good job Terry!
